Seen as something of a landmark in Korean cinema, Kim Jee-Woon's 'A Tale of Two Sisters' is one that must be seen to be believed.

Based upon the Korean folktale 'Janghwa Hongryeon jeon', the plot focuses on Su-Mi, a young girl who has recently been released from a mental ward. What should be a happy time within the family soon turns sour as strange incidents and grave misfortunes begin to plague them.

Starting out as a simple family drama, it soon develops into something far more sinister, with a tonal shift so intense you're likely to get whiplash. It's a film that truly revels in pulling the rug out from under the viewer and works so well because of it. The palpable sense of dread and unease this film creates is truly nerve-wracking, offering up some of Asian cinema's most chilling scenes.

The film was a huge success in Western territories, gaining heaps of praise from critics and it still stands as the highest-grossing Korean horror film of all time. If you're looking for something a little different to the standard fare you'll find within the genre, this is definitely one for you.
