10 Quotes That Define Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters
9. "Don't Ever Tell Me There's No Way" (Phil Coulson)
This quote, from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D television series (which, of course, takes place in the Marvel cinematic universe continuity), when Mike Peterson was on the verge of literally exploding, defines Phil Coulson in a number of ways. First, it epitomises his compassion. His refusal to accept that a situation, which in no way would have effected him personally, was as dire as it looked from the outside shows him off as a caring man first and foremost - which is one of the reasons why he is so likeable. Second, it epitomises his leadership skills. When his team were on the verge of giving up, he took control and refused to let them do so. As a result of his belief in both them and the greater good in general, the situation was indeed resolved peacefully. Finally, it shows him as no-nonsense and defiant. Beneath his warm, likeable and friendly demeanour, he is a tough son of a gun who will always strive to fight the good fight, whatever the consequences for himself.Full DialogueJemma Simmons: "Sir? He didn't explode because he was angry. The two are connected. It... it's kind of a chemical surge. But calming him down will buy him a minute at most. He will detonate within the next few hours." Phil Coulson: "Solution?" Jemma Simmons: "Isolate him, get him away from people." Phil Coulson: "Or?" Leo Fitz: "Put a bullet through his brain." Jemma Simmons: "If he's dead this irradiated metabolic process will stop." Phil Coulson: "We need to come up with a third option... one that doesn't involve Mike's son losing a father." Jemma Simmons: "We've a couple of hours at most, there's no way we could possibly..." Phil Coulson: "Don't EVER tell me there's no way!"
