Nominated for: Worst Director (Stanley Kubrick), Worst Actress (Shelley Duvall) - 1981 Eight of Stanley Kubrick's last nine films got Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. The other, The Shining, got Razzie nods. While there are issues with The Shining (and Shelley Duvall's screechy performance is one of them), and though original author Stephen King is famously not a fan, it's hard to see how a film that has since become so acclaimed could be deemed amongst the worst of its time. A 92% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, declared the Best Horror Film of all time by Channel 4, 29th on the AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills list, the subject of an entire acclaimed documentary (Room 237) purely devoted to theories trying to interpret it, The Shining is almost universally revered by now. The only explanation for its double Razzie nomination can be the fact that it was the first awards and the nominations were drawn up by Razzie founder John Wilson and friends alone (an argument for the wisdom of larger crowds, perhaps). Which other now-classic movies did the Razzies get it wrong about? Let us know in the comments below.
