10 Real Reasons Behind Annoying Movie Moments

3. The Corny Sex Scene - Top Gun

Though Top Gun is a film that many embrace for its prevailing corniness and latent homoeroticism, the sex scene between Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Charlie (Kelly McGillis) is just one step too cringe-worthy.

The soft blue lighting, the cheesy Berlin song, and the patent lack of chemistry between Cruise and McGillis make it all decidedly less sexy than the iconic volleyball scene between the boys.

But the sex scene wasn't even part of the original script, nor was it in the first cut of the movie.

However, after test audiences rather questionably called the film "too gay," the scene was added in reshoots in an attempt to spice up the romance between Maverick and Charlie.

And because reshoots took place many months after principal photography wrapped, McGillis had already grown her hair out and coloured it brown for another film, Made In Heaven.

So, the overwrought silhouetted lighting was less a mood choice than an attempt to obscure the colour of her hair. To their credit, it worked in that sense.
