Edgar Wright wasn't the only person to leave the project this year. In a sign that Marvel did indeed have some issue with his take on the character, several of the previously announced cast were dropped once the Brit left; Avatar's Matt Gerald, Alias' Kevin Weisman and Patrick Wilson were all attached under Wright, but will be absent from the finished film. Characters who were in Joe Cornish's original script that didn't make it through to the shooting version (or, in Wilson's case, removed due to scheduling conflicts brought about by the dragged out production process), it's another log on the fire of a troubled film. Obviously having things mixed up so close to release (this was all announced less an a year before it's set to arrive in cinemas) is bad, but it serves as an eye to a bigger problem; Marvel, a company normally so sure of itself, doesn't really know what to do with the film. Not to go back to the Wright point, but this is probably because they got rid of the guy who was the main reason the project existed in the first place.
