In fairness, too much fan service in a live-action movie can feel incredibly pandering, but it's surprising how relatively little Suicide Squad has in terms of nods to the exterior DC universe.

Assault On Arkham is conversely full of them: The Riddler and The Penguin show up early on, and Two-Face, Bane and Poison Ivy even appear briefly when The Joker springs the inmates of Arkham Asylum, while Commissioner Gordon is shown for a few seconds during the climactic battle.

When the Squad uncovers an equipment stockpile in Arkham, they also find items belonging to Firefly, Killer Moth and Maxie Zeus, before Killer Frost expresses total delight at finding Mr. Freeze's freeze-ray.

They're not particularly clever or subtle, but these references do place the movie and its events well within this world, while Suicide Squad feels largely disconnected from that aside from the cursory Batman/Bruce Wayne appearances.
