10 Reasons Batman V Superman's Ending Is The Stupidest Part Of The Film

8. They Think They're Being Smart With The Easter Release

The story of Batman V Superman's release dates is almost as convoluted as the film itself. It was originally set for 17th July 2015, but was pushed back to allow those involved to "realise fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story" (well, that's a polite way to put it). Unfortunately, the new date picked was 6th May 2016, which saw Dawn Of Justice in direct competition with Captain America 3, later revealed to be the Batman V Superman rival Civil War, and so it jumped again to 25th March. Now this was perplexing. At the time Cap 3 was just Cap 3, without Iron Man or the other Avengers for back-up, which seemed to show a real uncertainty for a film featuring the two biggest icons of the genre, and the shift to a typically quiet month looked like a desperate way to avoid competition. There is some semblance of logic to both points - Civil War is a behemoth and Summer 2016 is pretty saturated - but the death of Superman reveals a further, more perplexing motive. The Superman Is Jesus metaphor is ramped up in Batman V Superman and the Easter weekend release seems to have been chosen to solidify that; Warner no doubt hoped in years to come people would praise such thematically strong decisions in all form of the release. But all it really does is feel like a desperate attempt to appear intelligent while doing something really stupid. Kinda like the film.
