10 Reasons Black Panther Shouldn't Win Best Picture
1. A Best Picture Nomination Would Be Enough
Not to lavish the film with back-handed praise, but if Black Panther does manage to sustain a tidal wave of awards buzz for almost an entire year and score a Best Picture nomination, the nomination will effectively be the win.
Given the likelihood that there will be many, many movies better than Black Panther vying for Best Picture before the year is over, allowing it to fill the customary populist slot in the Best Picture lineup would be a neat way to recognise the film's achievements without going hysterically overboard.
In much the same way that, say, Mad Max: Fury Road getting a Best Picture nod was a huge moment of celebration for its fans while fully accepting it had zero chance of actually winning the award, Black Panther being accepted in the same company as more conventionally "worthy" films would be a major achievement for the still Oscar-less MCU.
