10 Reasons Black Panther Shouldn't Win Best Picture
6. The Villain Totally Overshadows The Hero
Antagonist Erik Killmonger is the easy highlight of the movie, an unexpectedly complex and even sympathetic villain who ranks among the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most compelling baddies to date.
He's also way more interesting than T'Challa, the hero of the piece who dominates the first hour of the movie before Killmonger even fully announces himself and his intentions.
That's not to call T'Challa a bore, because he absolutely isn't, but his more subdued personality contributes a little to the slight awkwardness of the film's first act, especially when contrasted with the far more effervescent, fiery and compelling Killmonger.
Considering the film is called Black Panther, and T'Challa pales so blatantly in comparison to his troubled cousin, it's absolutely a mark against the movie as a viable Best Picture contender.
