"Birch Street, Higgins Drive, Cobalt Lane..."

In the eyes of many, Netflix is not only producing superior adaptations to the MCU, but all of Hollywood. It's a hard position to debate against, with two seasons of Daredevil and one of Jessica jones, Netflix are really bringing the drama to obscure comics and dead movie adaptations.

Jessica jones is a private eye profiting from the seedy activities of the degenerates in Hell's kitchen. As we follow her we find that she wanted to help, but battling PTSD after colliding with a sociopathic mind controller, she is stuck between wanting to leave the past behind and preventing others from suffering like she did.

This is not your typical hero story. With many self absorbed characters and colliding agendas, the addition of a comic book villain with real world habits creates a beautiful mess. People question their own character throughout the season and nobody comes out of this story unscathed or unchanged.

Jessica Jones shows comic book fans a more realistic reaction to heroism and creates a great sense of cost to her actions. It really highlights how vulnerable you can be made to feel, while retaining that good old-fashioned comic book morality.

Eddie is a writer, cinephile, TV fan and wrestling abuse victim from Newcastle. After receiving his film degree in London he returned home to lift boxes in the vein of an 80s montage... It's not as fun as it looks in the films.
