10 Reasons Captain America: Civil War Beat Batman v Superman

7. Marvel Earned Civil War

When Marvel Studios started off, they had one hero - Iron Man. From that single movie, they expanded out. The Hulk was added in next, then a few years later both Cap and Thor appeared in their own films. When other characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye needed to be added to the movies, they were done so in ways that worked with the stories.

The characters were built up over the course of several movies spanning eight years. As such, by the time we get to Civil War, we know Steve and Tony inside and out. We saw the seeds of this conflict first beginning to take root in The Avengers.

We've watched Steve develop from someone who willingly follows orders to someone who does what's right regardless of what the orders say. And Tony has gone from a man who doesn't give a sh*t about anyone else into someone who is concerned with the consequences of his actions.

That development is what makes Civil War possible. Marvel earned the right to do this movie. DC didn't have that with BvS. They were in such a rush to catch up with Marvel that they just threw the characters into BvS and assumed that because it's Batman and Superman, somehow it would all work out in the end.

Except it doesn't. And the reason is because DC failed to do the necessary world-building.
