10 Reasons Horror Sequels Haven't Happened Yet
8. The Production Needs More Money - Attack the Block 2
Though Joe Cornish's sci-fi horror film Attack the Block wasn't a hit at the box office, it has endured as something of a cult classic since its 2011 release, enough that in 2021, Cornish announced he would be writing and directing a sequel, with John Boyega set to reprise his lead role.
It was certainly an exciting announcement, albeit one that came at a time when Hollywood was retreating inward and become ever-more conservative with the projects it financed.
And so, it's not terribly surprising that we've heard little of substance about Attack the Block 2 in the four-plus years since its confirmation.
Boyega did however recently explain the hold-up, which is about as predictable a situation as one could possibly imagine.
In an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Boyega confirmed that the script has been written and he's happy with it, but noted that the production needs "more money for those aliens."
Basically, Attack the Block 2 appears to be stuck at the budgeting stage, and though the first film was made for a svelte $13 million, it's fair to assume that a follow-up with a post-Star Wars Boyega will cost considerably more.
