10 Reasons John Stewart Needs To Be The Cinematic Green Lantern

1. He Offers Relevant Social Issues

Despite the fact that being African-American is a central part of his identity, John Stewart is more than just an angry black man. He’s got an understandable chip of his soldier, but his ties to a real city and the military offer a vast array of real-world problems for him to confront.

Nowhere are these different facets of his life better exemplified than on his first adventure, which had him fighting a race riot as opposed to a space monster. That’s the kind of realistic POV and social problems John Stewart brings to the table.

All told, a streamlined modernised version of John Stewart brings a host of problems none of the other lanterns, or superheroes, do. He could easily be portrayed as a former soldier, torn between the plight of the protester and the desire to stay true to authority. In the state of the current world, that could make him more relatable than ever.
