9. Chloe Moretz Is Brilliant In It (And Totally Wasted)
Every second of screen time is better if Chloe Moretz appears in it; just as she was in the original film, she is easily the stand-out here, both as a character and as an actor. We see Mindy pulled in two directions in Kick-Ass 2 - towards the Justice Forever supergroup and to a life as a normal teenager - and Moretz perfectly conveys the anguish of that decision, as well as the vulnerability of any young female. At the same time, she also gets to be totally, well, kick-ass during the movie's action scenes, doing her character a huge service in both regards. The problem is that Moretz really outshines the material, and is therefore pretty much wasted as a result; with stronger writing, Mindy could have truly been developed as a character while also getting to tear people open, but the narrative largely allows her to coast. It is only Moretz who really manages to convince that her character grows much.
