10 Reasons Marvel's Phase 3 Will Be Great

3. Civil War

Though non-comic readers may not immediately get the cache of the event name, anyone familiar with Marvel's publishing history was likely salivating as soon as rumors of Captain America 3's plot hit the internet. Civil War was Marvel's most successful series in of the past two decades, and reason was simply a strong hook - what's more important: freedom or security? Following a superhero-supervillain fight that leads to hundreds of civilian deaths, Tony Stark finds himself spearheading a government plan wherein all superheroes would need to register their identities with the authorities and receive proper training. Captain America, the Sentinel of Liberty, feels that this is a violation of basic rights, and so he refuses to help - making him an outlaw. The superhero community is divided along that line, and they do battle with each other - a lot. Adapting the movie as a Captain America film (rather than in an Avengers sequel) is bold, but it makes sense, as it follows on the political tone of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Much like with Thor: Ragnarok, this will be a big-time threequel.
