Whether looking at psychological thrillers, explorations of the paranormal, slashers, or zombie flicks, among many others, fans of horror have been treated well over the past couple of years. 2025, in particular, was spectacular, as has been the start of 2026.

While it's been a strong time for the genre as a whole, there's also been a certain special success for monster movies. Yes, the premise by itself can fall into the trap of the likes of Sharknado, whereby the monsters themselves have absolutely nothing worth watching going on around them, but that simply cannot be said for the following ten pictures.

The last couple of years have seen monster movies at the top of their game, with the near future looking to follow suit, and in some cases, a series can represent both sides of this coin. As in, recent successes that have already secured a sequel set to release within the next year or two.

There has been an outstanding remake of one of the most iconic horror films to date, and a fresh take on dinosaurs outside the Jurassic franchise, with another story surrounding the work of Dr. Victor Frankenstein to come, and even an origin story of a comic book villain.

10. Clayface

While James Gunn has brought a very specific and recognisable style to the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, and Superman, he has promised that, under his watch, the new DCU will not follow just one approach. As such, one of the next projects on the slate will venture into the world of body horror.

A standalone Clayface film may not have been what many had pictured this early into the new franchise, and it would appear that it will be as different to Superman as possible.

The Clayface character, typically found within the rogues' gallery of Batman, will be played by Tom Rhys Harries and will undergo a hideous disfigurement before having his entire body turned into clay.

Of course, this will still be a comic book movie, so it's hard to gauge just how much horror will be involved. However, the fact that the film is being written by Mike Flanagan should set some minds at ease. At the very least, this will be worth watching and will hopefully form an important part of the DCU moving forward.
