10 Reasons Mission: Impossible - Fallout Is The Best Ever

6. The Humor

Amidst all of the grand action sequences and the incredibly high-stakes plot, the film is also perhaps the funniest Mission: Impossible film.

As Rian Johnson adeptly pointed out on Twitter:

"Nobody’s doing action scenes on the same planet as @chrismcquarrie. It isn’t just spectacle or insane stunts, it’s wit and tension and clarity - his set pieces play like great dialogue. Bow down."

And he is absolutely correct. McQuarrie's action sequences in this film consistently push the insanity to new levels, but they're also so expertly edited that there are consistently moments of humor that land just as well as the big action beats.

Sometimes they're verbal, but more often than not they're all visual. Take the bathroom fight sequence for example, in which Hunt and Walker are exceedingly outmatched by their target's skills. This is expressed through a few shots of Hunt's face showing us just that. Through the smallest of facial ticks, McQuarrie and Cruise can generate huge laughs amidst the oohs-and-aahs.

This film also continues the trend from Rogue Nation, of other characters in the film being very aware of how insane it is that Ethan Hunt continuously performs these ungodly stunts in the name of his mission, which is always hysterical.
