8 Reasons Not To Get Excited For Avengers: Infinity War

1. Audience Burnout Is Inevitable

To paraphrase the 2nd law of thermodynamics, a movie franchise based on endless growth is unsustainable. Superhero movies have become a part of our annual routine. They're getting bigger and longer and louder with more 'splosions than ever before. Can Marvel prolong this forever? They already claim to have movie ideas in place up until 2028. With the shine already off the apple when it comes to seeing a bunch of different characters in the same movie, will Marvel succumb to audience fatigue before the decade's out? How many times can one of their movies end with a big thing in the sky threatening a city (Ulton, Guardians of the Galaxy, Winter Soldier, The Dark World, Avengers 1, Captain America 1) before the audience stop caring? Perhaps they won't. Perhaps they'll turn out in droves in a few years to see Infinity War and it'll be an amazing, thrilling, deftly constructed final chapter to everything Marvel has so far built. But the signs are against it, so let's all lower our expectations a bit. After all, it can do no harm.
