4. The Trust Factor
Superman is Earths most-beloved hero. Hes here to fight for truth, justice, and the American way. Hes more or less trusted by the government and law enforcement. Hes got the press on his side. Hell, he
is the press. Now compare that to Batman, who is usually regarded either as a simple urban legend of Gotham or is looked upon with fear by the establishment. One of the downsides to basing your entire persona on fear and intimidation is you dont have a whole lot of friends. Its well-known that Batman keeps contingency plans on various metahumans in the DCU. He intimidates everyone, even his fellow heroes. They all regard him as a loose cannon and are afraid of what he could do. So if it came down to Superman vs. Batman, who do you think most of the world would side with? Probably not the creepy guy who scares everyone he meets. Yes, as Bruce Wayne, Batman has financial resources, but pushing a Superman smear campaign is not easy. Its been tried before. And if were talking about a Superman who has earned the publics trust, its going to be really difficult convincing them that the guy who just saved them from an alien invasion is not to be trusted, but a scary nutcase who dresses up like a bat is.
