10 Reasons The Dark Tower Bombed

8. It Didn't Respect The Source Material (And Fans Knew It)

Arguably the movie's biggest sin is simply failing to respect Stephen King's source novel series, for while a successful adaptation doesn't need to be 100% faithful, it does need to at least capture the spirit of the material.

From the outset, many fans were upset at how much the movie focuses on young Jake Chambers, presumably in an attempt to lure in younger audiences, rather than keep the Gunslinger himself front-and-center.

Ultimately the essence of King's story is stripped away in favour of a more generic young adult-esque fantasy tale, and thanks to the marketing actually making this abundantly clear, King's legion of fans largely decided to steer clear.
