Marvel suffered no small (or undeserved) amount of criticism when another dump of leaked Sony emails involved their contract with the movie studio, which claimed that they could never make Peter Parker anything but a straight white male. After audiences were angling for Miles Morales to be the new on-screen Spider-Man, it was a real blow. And a half-black, half-Latino Spidey would be amazing. Sadly, it's not the direction they're going in. But Tom Holland totally meets their crappy requirements to play Peter Parker, and he goes a little further: he's actually a teen. He's actually charming. He's actually capable of balletic movements and stunts. He's actually a curly-haired dork. Tom Holland just is Peter Parker, the one kids read in those early comics and identified with. He looks like the drawings, acts like them, but presumably will have stronger, more contemporary words coming out of his mouth. Why is Tom Holland perfect for Spider-Man? Because just looking at the kid, he looks like Spider-Man. The Marvel-mandated Spider-Man, anyway. If that's what they're going for, they might as well do it properly, right?
