10 Reasons Why 2013 Is A Seminal Year For Sci-Fi Films

1. Gravity

Gravity Little is known about this film except that it has taken an inordinate amount of time to complete. Originally slated for release last year, it was pushed to late 2013 to accommodate for a longer-than-expected post-production schedule. Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, the film is about two astronauts who, after debris crashes into their spacecraft, are left drifting alone in space. Why We Are Excited: Alfonso Cuaron's previous film, Children of Men, is one of the greatest films of all time Sci-Fi or not. It has been seven years since that film's release, and Cuaron's follow-up is, understandably, much anticipated. Cuaron's direction on that film was seminal and revolutionary, and audiences have been eagerly waiting to see what else he has up his sleeve. On top of that, the film itself seems to be something of an anomaly, and based on descriptions it seems impossible to imagine how Cuaron is going to make this film cinematic. Based on an original script written by Cuaron and his son Jonas, here are only two characters in the entire film, and based on descriptions of the plot, it seems as though they spend most of the film's run time simply floating out in space. Rumors about 20-minute-long single take shots and other incredible technical achievements only add to the air of mystery and excitement about the film, and we couldn't be any more excited for its release date if only to find out just how Cuaron will manage to pull it off. Are there any other Sci-Fi films we missed that you are excited for? Which of these films are you most anticipating? Answer us in the comment section below! On a personal note, I am currently fundraising for a new short film I will be directing in a couple of months. It's called 'Mastodon', and it is a very exciting and very ambitious project. If you enjoy my articles and wish to support artists and independent filmmakers just trying to do what they love, please consider donating to the project! You can read more about the film and send in donations on our Indiegogo page: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/mastodon. Thank you!
