Though Fergee is a character in the comic universe of Judge Dredd, the casual viewer would be forgiven for thinking otherwise given how infuriatingly played he was by Rob Schneider in the 1995 film. Tacked on as little more than an uncomfortable and incongruous comic relief character, Fergee barely resembled his source material counterpart aside from being on the wrong side of the law, instead serving as a buffer for Stallone to bump dialogue off, while somehow seeing and raising this dialogue with something altogether more braindead and goofy. It seems as though their intent was to provide a POV-character to guide the viewer through the film, but in this respect - as well as many others - it was an abject failure. The reboot did manage to achieve the intended narrative effect with the use of Olivia Thirlby's character, but more on that later...
