7. He Has No Internal Conflict
Batman works so well because he is carefully built as a vengeful hero who is constantly having to keep from breaking his one rule of not killing anyone. The idea that he struggles with himself just as much as any of his enemies make the outcome of his victories all the more interesting because we get to see how they affect him on a deeper level. The endings to his stories are predictable and everyone knows he is going to win the fight. What's not predictable is how that specific outing will influence his character development. Superman doesn't have any of that. He is good therefore he does good things and at the end of the day he is good and will always be good. Batman is the hero we need but don't deserve because he saves the citizens of a city who don't understand him. Superman is the hero we have and take for granted because his character doesn't offer any analysis as to why he is a hero. The lack of any internal conflict mixed with the obvious outcomes of all of his battles make him extremely boring and overly repetitive.
