10 Reasons Why The Predator Is Better Than You Think
8. The Music
Henry Jackman is one of the hardest-working, most prolific composers working today and he is not championed enough for his work.
On his score for The Predator, Jackman makes some inspired choices, the best of which is sticking to both the theme and aesthetic of Alan Silvestri's work on the original film. Whereas prior entries in the series like Predator 2 or Predators had felt the need to either completely do-away with Silvestri's original theme or unnecessarily revamp it, Jackman keeps things classical.
He recreates Silvestri's original work with a few flourishes to boot but keeps it all rooted in the symphonic score of the original film. This and the impeccable sound design go a long way towards making this feel the most like a Predator film since the original.
A huge part of the reason that Silvestri's original theme remains so iconic is that it flew in the face of the 80s trend of utilizing synthesizers, opting for a full orchestral sound instead. And in honoring that mentality, Jackman has created an energetic and wonderful score that takes viewers right back to the jungle.
