10 Reasons Why The Predator Is Better Than You Think
4. The Gore
Straight up, you've never seen Predator action like this.
Sequences like the opening or the Predator's initial escape from Project Stargazer's lab are pulpy and bloody in all the right ways. Black and cinematographer Larry Fong continuously find new and fresh ways to utilize the Predator's physical appearance and attributes.
The aforementioned lab sequence features the Predator without any of his usual gear and having to use just his hands and the lab equipment around him to kill everyone, which results in a whole lot of people getting sliced open with his fingernails, thrown across the room with brutal force, or even one poor unfortunate soul who gets his arm torn off by the Predator's mandibles.
Black is clearly having a ball with these sequences, utilizing gallons-upon-gallons of blood effects to paint the whole frame red. The third act practically indulges the audience with gore, as The Upgrade proceeds to pretty much spend the final twenty-minutes of the film just tearing through by-standers in increasingly inventivgve and gory ways.
