2. It's Original
One of the most important factors regarding
Pacific Rim, is that it is an original property. Sure, its not necessarily a wholly original idea, but
Pacific Rim doesnt spawn off of a toy line or comic book. This isnt just some cheap merchandising tactic or a soulless adaption, but an idea hatched from the great mind of del Toro. Screenwriter Travis Beacham has worked with del Toro to produce a brand new science fiction universe, that is rich and compelling. You actually end up caring for the unique characters that embody the universe, and whilst they do share some of the usual traits from anime, they are brought to life with some great performances. Many fans have already noted the similarities between
Pacific Rim and the popular anime series
Neon Genesis Evangelion, but there some glaring differences between both titles. Disregarding the obvious synchronisation of pilots, the main theme of religion does not play a prominent role in
Pacific Rim.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is an almost hopeless story concerning emotionally troubled teenagers, with a shady organisation producing mechs. Theres none of that in
Pacific Rim, as the film is led by strong adult protagonists, and whilst the talented individuals may admittedly be a little conflicted, theres still hope in humanitys survival. Character arcs are vastly different, and countries unite together to face the monsters, eventually bringing an end to the war. Amongst the countless reboots, comic book movies and pointless Adam Sandler sequels, there is
Pacific Rim. It is an engaging story about human emotion and humanity coming together, whilst it is carried with some of the sweetest action scenes ever. Youll find none of that in any
Transformers movie.
