7. The Cast Is Better (Just)

You can't judge a film's cast on their collective awards success alone - but, for the sake of this article, let's. Taken on their last films, altogether the scores are as follows: X-Men: Days Of Future Past boasts three Oscar winners and a further five nominees, while Avengers: Age Of Ultron has five Oscar nominees and zero winners. Truthfully, the casts for both the X-Men franchise and the MCU are great, but the fundamental difference between the two is this: the former's cast has been selected based on acting talent, while the latter's has largely been picked based on their star potential. From the new X-Men crew, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence had been making names for themselves as great actors in smaller projects when they were cast, while the X-crew of old - Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen - were primarily stage actors cast because they fit the roles. The MCU has a good eye for solid actors in supporting roles, but it's unlikely anyone is going to argue the likes of Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd and Aaron Taylor-Johnson warrant the 'best of a generation' tag, unlike Fassbender, McAvoy and Lawrence. No one is going to argue, either, that Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson are bad at what they do; it's just that the X-Men casting gets it right across the board.
