10 Reasons You Shouldn't Get Excited About Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5
3. It's Going To Be Linked To Prometheus
Alien 5 (or whatever it ends up being called) has been getting all of the digital column inches these past few weeks, which has made it very easy to forget Blomkamp's movie isn't the only film on the horizon for the franchise. That's right; the sequel to Prometheus is still very much happening. It's been on the cards since before the first film hit, but now the script is currently in the redraft stage it's looking like Prometheus 2 will begin production in the near future, likely to be Ridley Scott's next film after the upcoming The Martian (even it doesn't make the currently projected 2016 release date). Two movies set in the same cinematic universe is hardly noteworthy nowadays, but the recent appointment of Scott Free as Alien 5's production company reveals a tangible link between Alien 5 and Prometheus 2, with many suggesting some crossover elements. No matter what you think of Prometheus (it certainly isn't a great prequel to Alien, but it also isn't really trying to be), or your expectations of a sequel promising some actual answers, having it linked to an Alien sequel is only going to have a detrimental effect; Scott's movie was consciously removed from the wider mythology, something that starkly contrasts with the faithful approach Blomkamp appears to have in mind.
