Without the western, we would have never gotten the Italian equivalent, the Spaghetti Western, which may be one of the finest things to ever happen to cinema.

If you've ever found yourself unable to quite get into the traditional American western genre, for one reason or another, just watch a Spaghetti Western film and it will immediately change you. The most famous and iconic of the bunch has to be Sergio Leone's Man With No Name trilogy which is comprised of A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

These films are a pretty perfect embodiment of what's so wonderful about spaghetti westerns. The action and camerawork are kinetic, the music is bombastically over-the-top, and much like the Giallo Italian horror films of the time, they're typically drenched in technicolor red blood.

These are the films that filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have returned to as reference points, not just for their westerns, but for their entire filmography.

And honestly, after seeing how the Spaghetti Western revolutionized and energized the genre, it gives you a whole new appreciation for the American western.
