M. Night Shyamalan caught the world by surprise this year by not actually Shyamalanning at all. The director is known for paradigm-shifting twists that have, for the past decade and a half, been the low-hanging fruit by which his films have been disparaged or dismissed. But not so with his most recent release, Knock at the Cabin.

A group of "horsemen" arrive at a remote cabin, armed with homemade weapons and a holy mission. They take holidaymakers Eric (Jonathan Groff), Andrew (Ben Aldridge) and their adopted daughter Wen (Kristen Cui) hostage, telling the dads if one of them doesn't kill the other, the world is going to come to an end. Because, you know, sure.

As they near the point of no return, tsunamis engulf coastlines, planes fall from the sky, and a pandemic spreads across continents. And, while most of us spend the duration waiting for the other shoe to drop, it never does. Andrew kills Eric, and makes it out alive with Wen, actually legitimately preventing the end of the world!

Now Andrew only has the rest of his life to think about what he did...

It's hard to say what's worse, killing your partner, or remaining indecisive long enough to ensure the deaths of millions across the globe. But he has all the time he needs to mull it over. All the time in the world.
