10 Recent Horror Movies You Should Watch Knowing NOTHING
9. Oddity
Damian McCarthy's follow-up to his acclaimed Caveat is another low-fi chiller that makes the absolute most of its few locations, small cast, and one very creepy wooden mannequin.
Even if the particulars of the narrative aren't hugely original, Oddity is a testament to McCarthy's ability as a filmmaker to mine every last drop of tension possible from the familiar setup, aided by strong performances from Gwilym Lee, Carolyn Bracken, and Caroline Menton.
McCarthy has a clear knack for getting under the audience's skin, such that even when the camera is still and things are dead silent, there's a pronounced air of dread-soaked unease.
As the Internet has been breathlessly praising this one to the heavens as of late, make sure you see it before someone carelessly gives away its more pulse-bounding moments.
Needless to say, there's going to be a long line of horror fans champing at the bit to see whatever he cooks up next.
