The Green Knight is one of the year's most visually spectacular films, and though its mere $15 million budget limited director David Lowery's use of VFX throughout, it was fair to believe that the title character's impressively intricate design received some post-production touch-ups.

And yet, the Green Knight's (Ralph Ineson) design in the film is actually executed completely practically, combining Ralph Ineson's mesmeric performance with state-of-the-art makeup effects. Lowery said:

"There are no VFX at all... We went through a lot of crazier designs, but ultimately I wanted him to be an actor underneath that makeup. We even talked about doing things like a puppet. I decided the best thing to do was cast a really great actor and design some incredible prosthetics around him."
