10 Recent Movie Subplots Everybody Hated

1. The Mystery Of "S**t Finger" - Spiderhead

Avatar The Way Of Water
Netflix

Shoutout to director Joseph Kosinski for releasing the brilliant Top Gun: Maverick and the decidedly-not-brilliant Netflix sci-fi thriller Spiderhead within a few short weeks of each other.

Spiderhead isn't a particularly good movie at the best of times, but at least it has some interesting ideas and a solid, game cast.

Less compelling, however, is a bizarrely ill-judged mystery subplot involving an unknown individual who is smearing fecal matter over the walls of the titular high-tech prison where the movie is set.

This person, nicknamed "S**t Finger," is revealed at the end of the movie to be prisoner Sarah (Angie Milliken), who makes her guilt known when she runs towards heroes Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett) with a handful of poo.

Sarah thankfully doesn't succeed, but the entire time you're watching this resolution play out, you're probably wondering, "But why?"

It was presumably supposed to be dementedly funny yet ultimately came off as unimaginative and juvenile, while conflicting harshly with the movie's overall tone.

Considering the movie was written by Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, though, perhaps we should've seen a little childishness coming.
