2. Who Is John Lark? - Mission Impossible: Fallout

After Mission Impossible churned out half a dozen movies, it would've been easy for the property to become stagnant. But the sixth entry, MI: Fallout, reinvigorated the spy franchise with its death-defying stunts and mesmerising fight choreography. Because of the film's HALO jump, the literal leg-shattering roof chase performed by Tom Cruise, and a dozen other action sequences, it's easy to see why Fallout is among the best blockbusters in years.

But that doesn't change the fact that this sequel is really predictable. Throughout the movie, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) teams up with the bicep-cocking moustache-sporting agent, August Walker (Henry Cavill) to find the mysterious terrorist, John Lark, before he activates a plutonium core.

So, when it's revealed John Lark and August Walker are one and the same, viewers let out a collective, "Yeah, so?" It was obvious Walker was Lark because... there was no one else it could be! There was genuinely not one single character in the story that fit the bill.

And let's be honest - the studio was never going to hire Cavill at the height of his career just to play second-fiddle, were they?
