The new Daisy Ridley-starring thriller Magpie may have been unceremoniously dumped in a few cinemas before being tossed onto streaming services, but this belies the fact that it's one of the most unexpectedly savage and entertaining genre outings of the past 12 months.

Ridley stars as Anette, a wife and mother to two children, whose already-strained marriage seems to crumble when her husband (Shazad Latif) falls in love with an actress (Matilda Lutz) their daughter is shooting a movie with.

However, Magpie is far from the garden variety pot-boiler you might be expecting - courtesy of a twisty script from Ridley's husband Tom Bateman, it has some delightful surprise up its sleeve, in turn delivering perhaps the very inverse of what many were expecting from the outset.

We're being vague for a reason here, but Magpie has a ton of fun digging into infidelity in our modern, tech-infused world, and as such will probably leave you smirking by the end.
