9. BlackBerry
To look at the poster for BlackBerry, you'd assume that it was a joke.
With funnymen Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton starring as the central figures responsible for the creation and success of the BlackBerry phone, under heavy makeup no less, how could this be anything but a parody of "corporate biopics" like The Social Network and, most recently, Air?
After all, who in their right mind gives a damn about the story of the BlackBerry's creation?
But as it turns out, Matt Johnson's film isn't a parody at all - sure, it's often very funny, but it's actually far closer to being a warts-and-all character drama than an outlandish satire.
Baruchel and Howerton give genuinely terrific performances in their roles while the rollercoaster ride of the BlackBerry's rise and fall makes for shockingly engaging viewing.
What an outcome for a film that could so easily have been an impossible-to-take-seriously laughing stock.
