10 Recent Movies That Avoided Obvious Mistakes
These movies skirted the most obvious possible mistakes.
Filmmaking is the summation of thousands of tiny creative and technical decisions that eventually result in a movie, and while most of these decisions couldn't single-handedly sink a film, some are clearly more crucial than others.
Sometimes, a single wrong-headed choice in the development stage can doom a movie before even a single frame of it has actually been shot, and it's even worse when fans saw it coming a mile off. So, it's always refreshing when smarter heads prevail and the most glaringly predictable mistakes that Hollywood has made time and time again are actually avoided entirely.
That's assuredly the case with the following 10 recent films, each of which had the potential to make some incredibly foreseeable yet easily avoidable gaffes without a sturdier hand at the helm. From indulging all the worst "legacy sequel" tropes to going PG-13, over-relying on fan service, and doing the very lousiest things that fans never asked for, these movies all seemed destined to make a fatal mistake, but thankfully skirted them unexpectedly.
Whether these movies turned out great or not, they all at least avoided the most embarrassing blunder of all...
10. Going PG-13 - Deadpool & Wolverine
The moment that Fox was acquired by Disney, many Marvel fans understandably questioned what would become of Deadpool - namely, would he be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in infuriatingly neutered fashion by being stuck with a PG-13 rating?
Even when Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, and company promised that this wouldn't be the case, there was still the fair concern that both would ultimately be overruled by a Disney higher-up, and that Deadpool's first cinematic foray under the MCU banner would short-sightedly ditch the R rating altogether.
Thankfully, though, that wasn't the case at all, with recent Deadpool threequel Deadpool & Wolverine being the very first R-rated entry into the ongoing wider superhero franchise. More to the point, the film showed no sign of compromise, fusing Deadpool's usual brand of ribald, button-pushing humour with gleefully meta gags about Disney, Kevin Feige, and even the very state of the MCU itself.
Given that the movie ended up grossing a stonking $1.338 billion worldwide, it should embolden Disney to develop more adult-skewing Marvel projects in the future.
