10 Recent Movies That Perfectly Set Up Incredible Sequels

Beyond The Spider-Verse cannot come quick enough.

More so now than ever, Hollywood is obsessed with the idea of a sequel. It seems that whenever a film sees success, it's almost an immediate green light for another outing to follow, not to mention the craze with building a shared universe.

With the post-credits scene trend popularised by Nick Fury and Tony Stark, even without knowing what the future holds, moviemakers will go out of their way to hint at more to come.

In recent years, plenty of movies have teased sequels, some of which were killed by the franchise ultimately going in a different direction, some that just haven't been able to pique excitement the way they were supposed to, and some that have happened but couldn't quite live up to what was promised. Jurassic World: Dominion was supposed to be about humans co-habiting with dinosaurs!

Then there are the following ten films that seem to have hit the nail on the head, suggesting sequels that could have a real, organic story rather than being little more than a cash grab, follow up on a huge cliff-hanger, or just give people more of what made the original popular in the first place. Some may seem more unlikely than others at this point, but you can truly never say never when it comes to this business. Speaking of which...

10. Zack Snyder's Justice League

Warner Bros.

Though a follow-up to Zack Snyder's Justice League may seem as close to impossible as imaginable right now, there was a time when you could have said the same thing about the Snyder Cut itself.

Justice League flopped when it released across the world in 2017, and it flopped hard. Thankfully, Zack Snyder was given the opportunity to complete his vision, as the Snyder Cut was released four years later, in what was ultimately a far superior product.

Without the input of a new director with a very different vision, and minimal studio interference, Snyder's Justice League played out in a more cohesive way, even laying down the pieces for the SnyderVerse to continue. Unfortunately, this has so far been ignored entirely by Warner Bros.

Whereas the actual canon all but abandoned the Justice League - showing them together only once more, at the end of Peacemaker - the Snyder Cut set in motion what could have been a powerful story. With Darkseid playing the role of the big bad - DC's answer to Thanos - Martian Manhunter and potentially more would have joined the team to defend the planet against Steppenwolf's uncle.

There is plenty of opportunity for DC movies to exist outside of James Gunn's DCU - such as The Batman and Joker - and after the resurrection power of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, can you really count out Justice League 2?
