10 Recently Announced Movies That Will Probably Never Happen

John Woo's Face/Off is unquestionably one of the greatest action films of the 1990s - a near-perfect high-concept genre flick topped by Woo's spectacular direction and spot-on performances from Nicolas Cage and John Travolta.

It is absolutely, positively a film that in no way commands a sequel, and while Paramount announced a remake in September 2019, by this past February they decided to develop a direct sequel instead, with Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong) set to direct.

However, the script is currently being penned by Wingard and his writing partner Simon Barrett without either Cage or Travolta yet attached to star.

Though Cage recently confirmed that he would love to be involved, ultimately there's no guarantee the negotiations will work out, or that Travolta will also be interested.

Considering how difficult it can be to make the stars align on projects like this, and that neither Cage nor Travolta are exactly the blockbuster box office commodities they were 20-plus years ago, Face/Off 2 doesn't seem likely to ever actually get made.

As fitfully amusing as the idea of a sequel to one of the most singular action movie concepts of all time is, it'll most likely fall far short of Woo's iconic original, so why even bother?
