4. Wuthering Heights
When a trailer is able to boast of telling the greatest love story of all time, it may pique the interest of some, but it also comes with its own pitfalls. Wuthering Heights is a perfect example of this.
Yes, Emily Brontë's work is considered one of the greatest romantic stories of all time, but then it begs the question, why does it need retelling, and will a new version do the story itself justice? Based on the reaction to the new remake, the jury is still heavily out.
Between the fact that both Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are far too old to play faithful versions of their characters, the decade age gap between them, and the filmmakers not being faithful to the "dark-skinned" description of Heathcliff from the source material, the film has a number of hurdles to overcome. Unfortunately, the general reaction to the trailer's recent release has done little to ease any minds.
Elordi and Robbie may be at the top of their games right now, but it will take more than that to appease fans of the novel, many of whom are already critical that the film will focus only on the romantic side of the story, and not the deeper aspects. Yes, this is only a trailer with just two minutes of footage, but what else is it supposed to achieve other than giving a feel for what the whole thing will be like?
