10 Remakes That Were Better Than The Originals

9. Ocean's Eleven

The inimitable appeal of the Rat Pack (consisting of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop) cannot be denied in the 1960 original of Ocean's Eleven, but director Lewis Mileston is absolutely no match for Steven Soderbergh who, true to form, directs the Hell out of a potential also-ran. Similarly ensnaring a top-drawer cast (including but not limited to George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Julia Roberts and Andy Garcia), Soderbergh feeds off of not only their inherent energy and charisma, but a live-wire script by Ted Griffin, making this a far smarter and more entertaining take on the same tale. It was, of course, popular enough to result in two underwhelming sequels, but the original stands by itself as a classically robust Hollywood picture; unexpectedly intricate, slick, and thoroughly charming.
