10 Ridiculous Movie Myths About Explosions

9. A Fridge Will Protect You From A Nuclear Blast

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Arib8uWMWsM You knew it was coming, the infamous fridge-nuking debacle from Steven Spielberg's dreadful sequel Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Indy finds himself at a nuclear testing site, and realising he's about to be vaporised by the blast, climbs inside a fridge to seek refuge. As if the scene couldn't get any more insulting, Spielberg ensures to close in on a sticker that says "lead-lined", an attempt to lampshade the fact that hiding in a fridge does not protect you from a nuclear explosion, lead-lined or not. In reality, the 6000 degrees of heat would melt the fridge and vaporise you regardless, yet in Spielberg's tireless quest to homage 1950s adventure serials and give us a sequel nobody particularly needed, he also delivered one of the most-maligned and derided scenes of any mainstream film of the last decade.
