10 More Ridiculous Movie Star Paychecks You Won't Believe

2. Sylvester Stallone - D-Tox (2002)

Stallone D Tox One of the biggest stars in the world during the 1980s thanks mainly to the success of the Rocky and Rambo franchises, Sylvester Stallone could easily command $15 million and above for starring in a movie at the height of his fame. However, the following decade saw a string of critical and commercial disappointments including The Specialist, Judge Dredd, Assassins and Daylight (to name a few) that saw his star fade. By the turn of the century, the likes of Get Carter, Avenging Angelo and Driven had rendered him almost irrelevant. The lowest point arguably came with D-Tox, a horribly-titled formulaic psychological thriller that sank without a trace upon release. The plot centers around Stallone's FBI agent, a recovering alcoholic that has recently attempted suicide and is sent to a rehab clinic that specifically treats law enforcement officers. Oh, did I mention that the clinic is an abandoned military base, a blizzard wipes out communications and a serial killer is on the loose? I did say formulaic, remember. Budgeted at $55 million, filming was completed in 1999 with the studio having such little confidence in the finished product that it sat on the shelf for three years before being released with a whimper in early 2002. Given the even worse title of Eye See You for the US release, the movie grossed an embarrassing $79,000 at the domestic box office and closed with a meager $6.4 million worldwide. And what is it doing on this list? Well, Sylvester Stallone was paid no less than $20m for starring in the movie, over three times the total box office receipts. Good work if you can get it, because the movie sucked.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
