10 Ridiculous Performances That Actually Improved Movies

5. Hugo Weaving - The Matrix Revolutions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHyKDrGzn-I Hugo Weaving is always a hoot when playing a villain, imbuing his characters with an unforgettable level of theatricality that is at once completely absurd but also genuinely menacing. Weaving was tasked with bringing the charm offensive in a film that had a sure poverty of it, given that a) it was a hugely underwhelming, empty sequel to a beloved franchise and b) Keanu Reeves is so freaking dull in these films. Weaving, however, brings plenty of personality to a role that, quite ironically, probably shouldn't have any; the actor makes of Smith a sneering, growling beast, clearly exasperated with Neo's perseverance despite, you know, being a computer program and not having emotions. Though the Wachowski's dialogue gets rather out of hand in the above clip, Weaving just goes with it, creating a memorable scene in an otherwise disappointing film, and generally speaking, his presence prevented the film from being outright terrible rather than simply mediocre.
