10 Ridiculous Performances That Actually Improved Movies

6. Nicolas Cage - The Wicker Man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6i2WRreARo Another case of an actor's hamminess elevating what is otherwise a terrible film, Nicolas Cage's bizarre, shouty performance as the protagonist in Neil LaBute's horrific remake of Robin Hardy's horror classic is about the only thing keeping this film from evaporating from our consciousness. Though many believe Cage is taking it seriously, that's very difficult to believe; it's much easier to believe that an actor of Cage's occasional calibre knew he'd be able to stave off bankruptcy by starring in this dud, and so just decided to at least try and have some fun with it. And fun he certainly had; Cage screams, kicks, punches, and whines his way through this dreadful film, culminating in the infamous "Not the bees...the bees....arggghhhh!" scene that has racked up so many millions of hits on YouTube. If it weren't for Cage so thoroughly taking the piss, then there'd be absolutely no reason to watch this film, and it would certainly have faded into obscurity a lot faster. As it stands, Cage might have helped it sell a few more DVDs.
