10 Ridiculously Manly Movie Characters Who Drip Machismo
5. Kurt Russell As Snake Plissken - Escape From New York (1981)
Probably the coolest man in the history of the universe to wear a patch over one eye who wasn't a pirate. Snake Plissken is probably the greatest personification of a grizzled antihero: hes crass and world-weary, yet he has an omitted morality about him that you cant help but have a high regard for. He may indeed be the hero of John Carpenter's Escape from New York, but make no mistake about it, it's not a position he's comfortable with. Adopting a survive-at-all-costs mentality in a desolate future world ravaged by World War III and the US government's reprehensible maneuverings, Snake Plissken seethes cynicism with every bit of strength in his body. Snake seems more at home causing mayhem in a post-apocalyptic war zone than helping his fellow man. Still, he's convinced by government agents to save the President of the United States from the prison island of Manhattan in exchange for a full pardon for his past crimes. Despite the excessive predicament, Snake's actions are highly relatable for anyone who takes pride in sticking their middle finger up at blameworthy authority figures.
