10 Riskiest Superhero Movie Castings Which Paid Off

8. Chris Evans - Captain America

Avengers Endgame Tony Stark

So synonymous with Steve Rogers' good will and generosity is Chris Evans that it is easy to forget that there was a time when Evans was almost exclusively cast as the fairly unlikable hothead.

His two biggest roles pre-Captain America both matched this definition as he played literal hothead Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Fantastic Four and egotistical action star in Lucas Lee in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Casting him as the patron saint of honour and heroism Steve Rogers was asking the audience to reimagine the actor as anything other than a bad boy, which could have potentially destroyed the Captain America films.

When 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger debuted it was clear that Evans was the perfect fit for the most selfless superhero in the MCU and he has been an ever present figure throughout his decade long stint as Cap. His Captain America films arguably form the strongest trilogy of all the solo films and his measured and thoughtful performance throughout has solidified him as a fan favourite.
