2. Before Sunset
It is definitely a stretch to call Before Sunset a comedy. But, I found the film on a list of romantic comedies thus it is on here. I will take any chance I can get to share the merits of this great film. The gall it must have taken for Richard Linklater to make this film. One of the great merits of the original film Before Sunrise was the ambiguity in the ending of whether or not Celine and Jesse would indeed meet at their destination. This film answers that question which should have never been answer. And the film addresses that in what it means depending on your reaction to the ending. If you believe they would meet, then you are a romantic. If not then you are a cynic. This film is entirely a conversation between the two protagonists, taking place in real time. It explores how two characters grow and mature through the ages which can be clearly seen through the two films. But, lets discuss how this could also be described as a comedy in my opinion. The conversations between the two are so clever and fun to listen to. They find quirks between the interaction with the two that brings genuine laughs and that is what makes the film work. It is the most genuine romance of all time.
