10 Romantic Comedies That Aren't Completely Insulting

9. Moonstruck

moonstruck In what could be a cynical look on life, I have the belief that a major component of love is the conscious choice of not leaving someone. €œMoonstruck€ is a film that asks that question in which no mainstream romantic comedy would dare to ask. The initial relationship of Loretta and Johnny is built on comfortableness. They are together because they are comfortable and it is convenient. And that is the major problem with most relationships and that causes dissatisfaction and bitterness. The central theme of the film is yearning in which Loretta battles new and exciting with safe and security. Nicolas Cage, with his manic energy, represents new and exciting. Danny Aiello, with his bumbling, every man nature, represents safe and security. On top of that, the comedy comes from the warmth of the characters. The family feels like a genuine Italian family, with its quirky traditions and superstitions that brings warmth to the movie instead of the cliché, hammered in characters of most other films.
